Bill is a partner of the firm and holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with Honours from the University of Queensland. Following a brief period of time as an examiner of patents at the Australian Patent Office, Bill obtained registration as a patent attorney in Australia and, subsequently, New Zealand. With over 15 years experience in the patent profession, Bill has extensive expertise in the drafting of patent specifications and prosecution of patent applications in the mechanical, civil and physical arts. Bill has particular experience handling matters in the fields of medical devices, information and communication technology and oil and gas technology. Bill also has expertise in opposition and re-examination procedures before the Australian Patent Office.
Bill has published numerous articles relating to changes in domestic IP laws and recent court decisions that have issued in the field in Australia. Particularly, Bill has published in internationally recognised journals in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and Japan on issues facing the patent profession and patentees in Australia. Bill is also an active member of the Patent Law and Practice (International) Committee for the Intellectual Property Owners Association of the United States of America.
