Tom is a Principal of the firm and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Pizzeys team. Originally from the United States of America, Tom holds a PhD in the field of evolutionary genetics from Cornell University. Tom has also work as a researcher at the University of Georgia and the CSIRO Entomology Section of Molecular Biology. He has been an invited lecturer at the Australian National University, an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology at Syracuse University, and a Research Associate at the State University of New York Medical College in Syracuse, New York.

Following his research career, Tom obtained his Juris Doctor from the School of Law at The University of Texas in Austin. He began the practice of law as a member of the State Bar of Texas and as a Registered United States Patent Attorney. Tom contributes his unique background and experience in patent law across several jurisdictions to the Pizzeys team and is particularly valued for his current advice concerning the protection of inventions in the United States and requirements for drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the United States.

Tom’s areas of technical expertise include molecular biology and enzymology, viral vectors, RNA interference and related technologies, cancer diagnosis and therapies, genetic therapies and transgenic organisms, stem cell technologies, neurobiology, GPCR evolution and engineering, molecular diagnostics and genomics, methods of medical treatment, bioinformatics and statistical methods.
