Justin is a registered Australian and New Zealand patent and trade mark attorney with a technical background in biotechnology. He has extensive experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications and advising on patentability, freedom-to-operate and infringement.
Justin also works with clients preparing and prosecuting plant variety protection applications (such as PBR and PVR). In addition, Justin is accredited by the PBR office of IPAustralia as a consultant Qualified Person which enables him to conduct comparative trails during examination of plant varieties.
Prior to practising in intellectual property, Justin worked in the biotechnology industry for over 10 years including as a research associate at The University of Cambridge and staff scientist positions at Syngenta (UK), CropDesign BASF (Belgium) and Agrigenesis (New Zealand). He was an inventor on a number of patent applications and has had his scientific work published in top ranking peer reviewed journals.
Justin has particular interest in the fields of life sciences & biotechnology, chemical & healthcare and agriculture & food. He has been recommended for patent prosecution in Australia by the prestigious Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) world’s top 1000 Patent Attorneys (2022 & 2023).
