Robert holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Physics, specialising in quantum optics and solid-state laser spectroscopy, from the Australian National University and Graduate Diplomas in Computing Studies and Electronic Arts. Prior to joining Pizzeys, Robert was an Assistant General Manager of the Patents and Plant Breeder’s Rights Group in the Australian Patent Office, as well as a Deputy Commissioner of Patents. He has a particular interest in international developments in the area of patents. This has led Robert to represent the Australian Patent Office at Meetings of the International Authorities under the PCT, the Working Group on the Digital Access Service for Priority Documents and many other for a at an international, bilateral and industry level.
Robert has over 11 years experience as a Hearing Officer at the Australian Patent Office, issuing decisions on a range of matters including pharmaceutical extensions of term, re-examinations and substantive oppositions for both patent and design cases. With this experience Robert brings invaluable insight on such procedures to the team at Pizzeys.
With experience in a range of technical fields, Robert’s interests are primarily in the communications and information technology fields. He has particular expertise in DSP programming, audio processing and compression algorithms.
